El termostato de un refrigerador consta de un bulbo, generalmente de cobre, que está unido por un tubo capilar, o un tubito muy pequeño y flexible de cobre o de aluminio (del mismo material que el bulbo) y que al final del tubito hay un pivote que hace actuar un contacto eléctrico que abre o cierra un circuito. Cuando el gas dentro del bulbo se expande por falta de frío empuja el pivote que a su vez hace cerrar el contacto eléctrico para encender el compresor y que el refrigerador enfríe.
The thermostat of a refrigerator comprises a bulb, usually copper, which is connectedby a capillary tube, or a very small flexible tube made of copper or aluminum (the same material as the bulb) and at the end of the tube there is a pivot actuates an electrical contact that opens or closes a circuit. When gas expands within the bulb bylack of cold pushes the pivot which in turn makes electrical contact to close the switch on the compressor and cool the refrigerator.
